Akin strong as Baysox top Cats 4-1

BaysoxLHP Keegan Akin allowed just one run over six innings of work and the Bowie Baysox (28-30) used a pair of first inning runs to pick up a 4-1 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (36-25) on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester.

Akin (7-4) allowed one run on four hits to go along with two walks and six strikeouts in six innings of work. RHPBranden Kline (3.0 IP, H, BB, K) tossed the final three innings for the Baysox to notch his second save of the year.

Bowie grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first as the first three men in the inning reached beforeCorban Joseph delivered an RBI double and Ryan Mountcastle knocked in a run via a sac fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, Andrew Guillotte reached with a two-out single, went to second on a walk and scored on Jon Berti’s RBI single to bring the Fisher Cats within a run at 2-1.

The run snapped a scoreless streak of 18.0 IP for Akin.

New Hampshire starter Josh DeGraaf (1-3) gave up the two runs on four hits while walking one and fanning four in 6.0 IP.

The Baysox grabbed a pair of insurance runs in the ninth to open up a 4-1 lead as a pair of singles put two men on, both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch and Audry Perez came through with a sac fly, while Aderlin Rodriguez delivered an RBI single.

Both runs were charged to Fisher Cats LHP Kirby Snead (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, K).

Joseph (2-4, 2B, RBI, R), Rodriguez (2-4, RBI) and Anthony Santander (2-4, 2 R) all had multi-hit games for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as LHP Jayson Aquino (3-2, 4.20) gets the start for the Baysox against Fisher Cats RHP Justin Dillon (0-1, 7.20).
