Pedestrian Motorcyclist killed on Patuxent River Road in Davidsonville in freak accident

UPDATE:  From Anne Arundel County Police at 8:25PM

On May 1, 2018 at approximately 3:50 p.m., officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the area of Patuxent River Road and Darcey Lane in Davidsonville. Preliminary investigation showed that a BMW motorcycle was traveling south on Patuxent River Road in the area of Darcey Lane. Loveville Timberworks, a tree removal service was removing trees in a wooded area just off the northbound side of Patuxent River Road. A tree they were removing fell in the opposite direction intended, and struck the motorcycle.

The driver was declared dead at the scene and was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy. The primary cause of this crash is a tree falling into the travel portion of the roadway. Speed or alcohol does not appear to have contributed to this crash. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation.

Police and EMS are on the scene of a fatal accident in the 3800 block of Patuxent River Road (near the intersection of Queen Anne Bridge Road).  A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle motorcyclist was involved in an accident shortly after 4pm and CPR was initiated while a Maryland State Police Helicopter dispatched for the transport. After the patient was unable to be revived, the helicopter was canceled.

There is no information yet on any other injuries or any specifics. Anne Arundel County Police are investigating the accident and will release more information shortly. Expect traffic delays in the area while they re-construct the accident.

We have heard conflicting stories on what happened. The information provided was per the EMS dispatch; however a man who witnessed the accident says it was a motorcyclist who struck a tree that was “dropped” in the road by a construction crew.  We will update this as we learn more.
