Baysox hold off late Harrisburg rally in 6-4 win

BaysoxRHP Christian Binford allowed just one run over six innings of work in his Baysox debut and Bowie (2-2) held on for a 6-4 win over the Harrisburg Senators (2-2) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

Harrisburg plated three runs in the ninth on Osvaldo Abreu’s RBI single and a two-run single from Rafael Bautista to cut the lead to 6-4, but LHP Luis Gonzalez (0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 K) fanned Jacob Wilson with the bases loaded to end the game and notch his first save of the year.

All three runs in the ninth were charged to RHP Ryan Meisinger (0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB).

Binford (1-0) gave up the one run on five hits to go along with a walk and five strikeouts in 6.0 IP.

The Baysox plated four runs on two hits in the second to open up a 4-0 lead as Adrian Marin and Erick Salcedo drew bases-loaded walks, while Cedric Mullins and Corban Joseph each picked up an RBI fielder’s choice in the inning.

Harrisburg got a run back in the third with Abreu’s solo shot off of Binford to cut the lead to 4-1.

In the home half of the fourth, Martin Cervenka singled to start the inning, took second on a groundout, went to third on Salcedo’s bunt single and scored on Joseph’s two-out RBI single to stretch the Bowie lead to 5-1.

Cervenka is 7-13 (.538) over his first three games of the season with two doubles, three RBI and five runs scored.

Senators starter Luis Reyes (0-1) was dealt the loss in his Double-A debut after allowing five runs on six hits to go along with four walks and four strikeouts in 4.0 IP.

Mullins’ solo shot in the sixth extended the Baysox lead to 6-1. The home run was Mullins’ first of the season.

Cervenka (2-4, 2 R), Joseph (2-4, 2 RBI) and Ademar Rifaela (3-4, 2B, R) all had multi-hit games for Bowie, while LHP Paul Fry (2.0 IP, 4 K) had a scoreless outing in relief.

The Baysox open a three-game set with the Erie SeaWolves on Monday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie. First pitch of the series opener is set for 6:35 p.m. with RHP Hunter Harvey (0-1, 2.08 in ’17) making his Double-A debut for Bowie against Erie LHPTyler Alexander (8-9, 5.07 in ’17).
