Junior League to participate in #GivingTuesday

Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. (JLA) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.  Occurring this year on November 28th, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), with the widely recognized shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to kick-off the holiday giving season by inspiring people to give back to their local communities for the causes they support.

“After working your way through crowds of Black Friday shoppers, and clicking the ‘Buy Now’ button on Cyber Monday, connect with the reason for the season and join the global celebration to promote a day of giving back through #GivingTuesday.  I encourage you to support our mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers by donating to Junior League of Annapolis’ Annual Campaign,” says Racheal McConnaughhay, Executive Director.

All proceeds from #GivingTuesday benefit the community programs of JLA and the organization’s training of its civic leaders.  JLA partners with local nonprofits to create programs in which JLA can be most impactful in providing financial support as well as trained volunteers.  This year, JLA is involved with two community projects: Community of Hope Brooklyn Park, a JLA program that promotes healthy and successful children and families and Seeds 4 Success, a program in partnership with Alumnae and College Access (ACA) that provides after-school sessions to high school girls for college planning.  These sessions include SAT tutoring, college interview practice, time and management skills as well as networking and social skills.
