Next week is National Red Ribbon Week

October 23-31, 2017 is the twenty-ninth National Red Ribbon Week. U.S. citizens wear badges of red satin ribbons during this week in memory of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, a 37-year-old former marine and police officer who was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico in 1985.

The theme of Red Ribbon Week 2017 is “Your Future Is Key, So Stay Drug Free.” The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will observe Red Ribbon Week by providing project ideas to schools and community groups that want to hold drug prevention and education activities. The Department of Health’s Prevention and Education Services can offer suggestions for online resources, classroom exercises, prevention activities and pledges that promote a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle.

For more information about Red Ribbon Week activities and year-round drug and alcohol prevention education, contact Prevention and Education Services at 410-222-6724 or [email protected].
