At 2pm on September 17th, personnel from the Annapolis Fire Department were going door-to-door distributing information about smoke alarms in the 700 block of Tyler Avenue when they saw an adult male in the backyard of one of the homes holding a handgun.
The firefighters asked if the gun was real and the man began walking towards them waving the gun at them. The man then dropped the magazine from the gun and appeared to begin loading it. The firefighters, fearing they would be shot, fled the area and called the police.
Officers responded and identified the suspect as Oscar Chavez, 19, of Annapolis. A search warrant for the home was obtained and a silver and black BB gun was found inside.
Chavez was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault and reckless endangerment. Chavez was released by the District Court Commissioner.
