Can a working mother become an Alderperson? Hell yes!

Julie Mussog
Candidate, Ward 8 Alderperson

Letter to the Editor:

I want to address a question that has been put out there that I have heard about both directly and indirectly -“Do I have enough time to be an alderman as a working mother?”  My answer is an emphatic YES!

I find it troubling that I cannot recall the balance of being a working parent as an issue for the male aldermen on the council-and there are several such as Aldermen Littmann and Pfeiffer.

I am running for Alderman of Ward 8 because I am a mother.  I am deeply invested in improving our community because I see the impact it has on our youngest members. I want to have a seat at the table where I can continue to positively impact community concerns related to crime, deteriorating roads, traffic, over development, and the other many issues we are facing.

I have been blessed in many ways, including, the opportunity to live in our wonderful community of Eastport with my husband and son.  I am also blessed with a career that I love and that also serves the wider public of our county.  While working full-time, I have always also prioritized volunteer work and improving the community where my family lives.  Did you know that volunteerism rates are actually higher among those who have jobs and kids than those that are not in the workforce?

Benjamin Franklin said, “If you want something done, ask a busy person.”  You ask a busy person, because they have already proven they are effective and efficient with their time.  I encourage anyone in Ward 8 with concerns about the time I have to devote to alderman to email me at [email protected].
