Buckley, Pantelides to face off for Mayor’s seat in November. Tickets to debate are now available.

While the vote count is not official just yet, it looks like restauranteur Gavin Buckley has defeated state Senator John Astle for the democratic nomination for Mayor of the City of Annapolis; and on the republican side, incumbent Mayor Mike Pantelides easily defeated attorney Nevin Young for his party’s nomination.

In the contested Aldermanic races, voters chose challenger Elly Tierney over Alderman Joe Budge in Ward 1, Shaneka Henson over DaJuan Gay in Ward 6, Rob Savidge over Alexus Viegas in Ward 7, and incumbent Alderman Ross Arnett over John “Bumper” Moyer in Ward 8.

Over in Ward 4, incumbent Alderwoman Sheila Finlayson declared victory, but challenger Toni Strong Pratt is holding off on a concession. Finlayson leads by 19 votes and we understand there are 60 absentee and provisional votes that still need to be counted.

Buckley’s win was surprisingly large with Astle conceding the race less than an hour after the polls closed.

We will be mulling over the numbers a bit later today for a more detailed analysis so stay tuned.

However, if you have some time, take a listen to the latest podcast from The Maryland Crabs. We met at the Blackwall Hitch for a special election episode and spoke with Mayor Pantelides, Gavin Buckley, Julie Mussog, David Frankel, Bumper Moyer as they fought for their respective offices. To help guide us through the process, Dr. Dan Nataf from Anne Arundel Community College.

Others that stopped by to chat include former Mayor Josh Cohen, former Mayor Ellen Moyer, Alderman Jared Littmann, County Council Candidate Scott MacMullan, local businessman Michael Hughes, and many more.

Last week we made our predictions and with the exception of Ward 8, which we acknowledged was a long shot, they held up pretty well.

Eye On Annapolis and The Maryland Crabs will be sponsoring a debate on October 15th at the Rams Head On Stage and free tickets are now available. There is no cost, but tickets are required.
