The signs were clear. First Governor Hogan made a statement. Then the Trust that is responsible for the grounds of the State House held a vote. “No Parking” signs were placed all around State Circle late yesterday afternoon. An increased Maryland Capitol Police presence was noticeable.
And, like the statues in Baltimore, the divisive Roger B. Taney statue was gone.
While the statue’s future is uncertain, but for now it will be stored by the Maryland State Archives. Some people are still lobbying for the statue to make a comeback along with a new one of Frederick Douglass –on equal footing, opposing one another. Stay tuned.
