More information provided on double drowning in Severna Park

Two people, including a child, died as the result of an accidental drowning in a backyard pool Thursday afternoon in Severna Park. Just after 1:50 p.m. firefighters responded to the unit block of Jamal Drive for a drowning. Firefighters arrived to find a 51-year-old male and a 4-year-old female at the bottom of the deep end of an in-ground pool. Firefighters immediately entered the water to remove both victims who were unconscious and in cardiac arrest. Paramedics transported both patients to Baltimore Washington Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.
Information gathered in conjunction with the Anne Arundel County Police indicate that a group of neighborhood children, supervised by the adult patient, were swimming at the pool with the homeowner’s permission. The 4-year-old patient jumped into the deep end of the pool and began experiencing distress. Other children attempted to assist her using nearby items including the pole from the pool skimmer. When these efforts failed they alerted the adult who was with them. The adult, the grandfather of the 4-year-old, also attempted to assist her before entering the water himself. When he began to experience distress, the children went to a nearby home for help. The mother of the adult patient who was also the great-grandmother of the child came to the pool and then called 9-1-1.
The deceased have been identified as Aryannah Wooten (4) and Lemuel Kane (51) both of the 400 block of Asbury Drive in Severna Park.
