County hires new compliance officer

Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh  announced the appointment of Alanna Dennis as the County’s Compliance Officer.

“Diversity training is a crucial tool to building trust and understanding amongst every employee who serves,” said Schuh. “The compliance officer will work with our Office of Law to ensure a comprehensive effort to build that trust, and I am incredibly excited Alanna has agreed to join our team to ensure our internal training efforts are successful.”

As Compliance Officer, Ms. Dennis will help address and facilitate internal human resource complaints throughout County government. She will also institute an internal, recurring diversity training program for the County employees.

“Compliance, diversity and inclusion are all essential components of governance.  Every person’s voice matters with respect to equal rights and opportunities,” said Dennis. “As a compliance educator, mediator and investigator, my door will always remain open as an impartial resource providing guidance, creating training and outreach initiatives, as well as, in developing a conciliation program.  I am enthusiastic about meeting each member of the workforce and in joining County Executive Schuh’s team!”

Currently, Ms. Dennis serves as Director of Equity Compliance at Bowie State University. In that role, she supervises the Equity Compliance office, serves as the Equal Employment Opportunity and American with Disabilities Act (EEO/ADA) Officer and Title IX Coordinator for the university. She is charged with investigating and mediating complaints of alleged discrimination, harassment and retaliation.  She also serves as EEO/Sexual Misconduct Prevention Trainer and Affirmative Action Officer on behalf of the university.

Prior to that role, she served in compliance roles for several local health systems.

For ten years, Ms. Dennis served as an Assistant Maryland Attorney General where she litigated administrative law matters on behalf of the state of Maryland- Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation’s boards and commissions, including, the Commissioner of Labor and Industry, Maryland Real Estate Commission, and Home Improvement Commission.

She obtained a Master’s degree in Business Management from John Hopkins University and a law degree from the University of Texas. She is also a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College.

Ms. Dennis’s appointment is effective August 30th.
