Baysox threaten in 9th, but come up short

Baysox FieldThe Bowie Baysox (67-62) left the tying run at third in the ninth and fell to the Altoona Curve (69-60) by a score of 2-1 on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona.
 
In the top of the ninth, Stevie Wilkerson led off with a double, took third on a flyout but Curve RHPCasey Sadler got back-to-back groundouts from Garabez Rosa and DJ Stewart to end the game.
 
Sadler (2-3) allowed one run on seven hits to go along with a walk and seven strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
 
The 9.0 IP complete game is the first against the Baysox since Altoona’s Adrian Sampson tossed one on July 18, 2014.
 
The Baysox grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third as Ryan Mountcastle led off with a single, went to second on a sac bunt, took third on a balk and scored on Erick Salcedo’s RBI single.
 
Altoona took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the fifth as Jin-De Jhang led off with a triple and scored on Michael Suchy’s sac fly to tie the game before Elvis Escobar reached with a bunt single, went to third on a single and scored on Jordan George’s sac fly.
 
Bowie starter Lucas Long (9-6) gave up the two runs on six hits while walking three and fanning three in 7.0 IP.
 
Salcedo (2-3, RBI) had a multi-hit game for manager Gary Kendall’s squad, while LHP Tim Berry (1.0 IP, BB, 3 K) had a scoreless outing in relief.
 
The series continues on Friday at 6:00 p.m. as RHP David Hess (10-8, 4.13) heads to the hill for Bowie against Altoona RHP J.T. Brubaker (7-4, 4.47).
