Baysox shutout New Hampshire in series opener

Baysox FieldAnthony Santander homered and Lucas Long and Ryan Meisinger combined to shut down New Hampshire as the Baysox shutout the Fisher Cats 6-0 on Tuesday night.

Santander did a little bit of it all. He went 3-for-4 in the game including a long, soaring solo shot to right field in the sixth inning along with an important throw early in the game. New Hampshire sent speedster Anthony Alford around third base on a two-out single to right, but he was thrown out in a bang-bang play at the plate by a perfect throw by Santander and tag by catcher Austin Wynns.

The game was broken open in the third inning. Adrian Marin lined a breaking ball into left-center to leadoff the inning and was at second base with one down. Cedric Mullins then registered his second hit of the night, lacing a double to right-center, scoring Marin to lead 1-0. After a fielding error, Austin Hays hit a hot shot down the left field line for a double into the corner plating both runners. Hays then scored on a Santander, two-out, RBI-single and the lead was 4-0.

Long (7-4) was control from the start, striking out six in six solid scoreless innings. Four of Long’s six strikeouts were looking. Ryan Meisinger then registered his sixth save of the year with a season-long three-inning outing. He retired all nine men faced, striking out two.

Hays joined Santander with three hits in the game. Wynns and Mullins also registered multi-hit affairs. Garabez Rosa went 0-for-5 on the evening ending a season-high 12-game hit streak.

The Baysox look to continue their strong play on Wednesday afternoon with RHP Jordan Kipper getting the starting nod. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on wnav.com, baysox.com and via the WNAV, MILB and Tune-In Radio Apps.
