Baysox rally in the 9th to top Reading 4-3

Baysox FieldThe Bowie Baysox (63-58) rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth and topped the Reading Fightin Phils (63-58) by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.

In the top of the ninth, Aderlin Rodriguez led off with a single, went to third on a DJ Stewart double and scored the tying run from third on a wild pitch charged to Reading LHP Garrett CleavingerRyan Mountcastle delivered the go-ahead RBI single to plate Stewart and give the Baysox a 4-3 lead.

Cleavinger (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K) was tagged with the loss for Reading and drops to 2-5 on the year.

LHP John Means (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) allowed just one earned run over five innings of relief to earn the win for the Baysox and improve to 9-7. RHP Scott McGough (1.0 IP, H, K) tossed a scoreless ninth to notch his ninth save.

The win marks just the second all season in which the Baysox have trailed after eight innings and come back to win.

Bowie grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on Aderlin Rodriguez’s solo shot off of Reading starter Franklyn Kilome. The home run was Rodriguez’s 18th of the season.

The Fightin Phils quickly answered with Jiandido Tromp’s two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Baysox starter Jesus Liranzo (n/d) gave up the two runs on two hits while fanning one in 3.0 IP.

Reading extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth when Carlos Tocci led off with a single, took second on a wild pitch and later scored on Tromp’s two-out RBI double.

Jeff Kemp led off the fifth with a solo shot and brought Bowie within a run at 3-2. The home run was Kemp’s second of the year and his first since May 4 at Richmond.

Cedric Mullins (2-3, 2B), Rodriguez (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 R) and Stewart (2-3, 2B, R) had multi-hit games for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

The series wraps up on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. with RHP Yefry Ramirez (12-3, 3.50) on the mound for the Baysox against Fightin Phils LHP Cole Irvin (5-2, 4.47).
