Bats go quiet in 5-2 loss to Erie

Baysox FieldThe Bowie Baysox (64-59) dropped the series opener to the Erie SeaWolves (60-63) by a score of 5-2 on Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

The Baysox did not have a hit after the first inning.

Grayson Greiner’s three-run shot in the first off of Baysox starter Tanner Scott gave the SeaWolves an early 3-0 lead.

Bowie answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the frame as a double and a single put two men on before Aderlin Rodriguez and DJ Stewart delivered back-to-back RBI singles.

Scott (0-2) gave up the three runs on three hits while walking and fanning a pair in three innings of work.

Erie stretched the lead to 4-2 in the sixth as Gabriel Quintana drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a double and scored on Harold Castro’s RBI single. The run was charged to RHP Jordan Kipper (4.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K).

SeaWolves starter Matt Hall (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits to go along with a walk and eight strikeouts in 6.0 IP. RHP Victor Alcantara (2.0 IP, 3 K) and RHP Paul Voelker (1.0 IP, K) combined to close things out for Erie with Voelker notching his sixth save of the year.

Greiner’s solo shot off of LHP Raudel Lazo (2.0 IP, H, R, ER, K) in the top of the ninth made it a 5-2 game in favor of the visitors.

LHP Tim Berry (1.0 IP, 2 BB, K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

The series continues on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. as RHP Lucas Long (8-5, 2.90) gets the start for Bowie against Erie LHP Tyler Alexander (7-7, 4.98).
