Annapolis election news, deadline to register to vote is on Monday

It is the City of Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections’ goal, in cooperation with the Anne Arundel County Board of Election, to provide all eligible citizens of Annapolis convenient access to voter information.   In 2017, City of Annapolis residents who are qualified to vote may vote for a Mayor and an Alderperson to represent their Ward.  The City of Annapolis Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, and the City of Annapolis General Election will held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

If you haven’t registered to vote in Annapolis, you can register online using the Maryland State Board of Elections website at http://bit.ly/1peRmYd. The registration deadline is 21 days prior to any primary or general election.

There are a few changes that all voters need to know about since the last election. The changes affect the following:

·         Polling Places

·         Absentee Ballot

·         Emergency Ballot

A number of the locations to vote, your polling place, have changed since the elections four years ago.  To view the new 2017 Annapolis Polling Place List, go to http://bit.ly/2vb408x.   All polling locations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the date of the election for both the primary and the general election.

A registered voter may vote by absentee ballot without a specific reason, which is a change from past years. The voter must apply for an absentee ballot as provided in Chapter 4.28 of the Annapolis City Code and file the application in the office of the City of Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections by specific dates and times. For more information on how to request an absentee ballot and the required deadlines, go to http://bit.ly/2hgjsdO. You will also find important information on an emergency absentee application, including qualifications, deadlines and locations to submit. To get specific information on certification for a person assisting an absentee voter, emergency absentee voting information and application, or emergency absentee ballot designation of agent form, go to http://bit.ly/2tWY6YT.

If you have questions or comments regarding the upcoming elections, the City of Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections encourages you to attend their monthly meetings, which are open to the public. They meet in the City Council Chambers, located at 160 Duke of Gloucester Street in Annapolis on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.  Agendas and minutes are posted on the city’s website. The next meeting is on Thursday, August 17th.

As you get ready for the upcoming elections, the Annapolis Board of Supervisors of Elections has put together a comprehensive election page including a list of frequently asked questions that may be of help. Go to http://bit.ly/2tWY6YT for more information.
