A three-run sixth for Altoona proved costly as the Bowie Baysox (68-63) fell to the Curve (70-61) by a score of 4-3 on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona.

The Baysox made things interesting in the ninth with Cedric Mullins’ two-run shot off of RHP Tate Scioneaux (0.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER) to cut the lead to 4-3, but RHP Luis Heredia (0.2 IP, K) came on and got the final two outs to notch his second save of the year. The home run was Mullins’ 13th of the season.

In the afore-mentioned three-run sixth, Justin Maffei was hit by a pitch to start the inning, went to second on a sac bunt, took third on a groundout and scored on Cole Tucker’s two-out RBI single to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Following Tucker’s single, a pair of walks loaded the bases before Jerrick Suiter drove home a pair with a two-run single.

All three runs were charged to RHP Jason Garcia (1.0 IP, H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB) who was dealt the loss and falls to 5-4 on the year.

RHP Tanner Anderson (2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 K) earned the win for Altoona to improve to 10-8.

The Baysox grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Mullins drew a one-out walk and scored from first on DJ Stewart’sRBI double.

Altoona tied the game in the home half of the frame as Tucker reached with a bunt single, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on Jordan George’s two-out RBI double.

Bowie starter John Means (n/d) gave up the one run on seven hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in 4.2 IP.

Curve starter Brandon Waddell (n/d) allowed one run on six hits while walking two and fanning four in 5.2 IP.

RHP Ryan Meisinger (1.1 IP, H, BB, 2 K) and LHP Raudel Lazo (1.0 IP, H, 3 K) had scoreless outings in relief for manager Gary Kendall’s squad, while Austin Hays (2-5) and Ryan Mountcastle (2-4) delivered multi-hit games.
