Cardiac Baysox strike again with win in walk-off fashion

Baysox FieldFor the second straight night, the Baysox rallied for a walk-off win as Garabez Rosa’s walk-off RBI single with two outs in the ninth lifted Bowie (52-46) to a 6-5 win over the Altoona Curve (49-47) on Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

Mike Yastrzemski reached with a one-out walk in the inning, went to third on an Austin Wynns single and scored on Rosa’s game-winning single to give the Baysox their second straight walk-off win.

The run was charged to Altoona RHP Yeudy Garcia (1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) who was tagged with the loss and drops to 3-6 on the year.

RHP Scott McGough (2.0 IP, 4 K) earned the win for Bowie with two shutout innings of relief to move to 1-0.

The Baysox have now rallied from a four-run deficit on back-to-back nights.

DJ Stewart drew a two-out walk in the eighth, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Aderlin Rodriguez’s RBI double to tie the game at five apiece for manager Gary Kendall’s club.

A four-run first opened up an early 4-0 lead for Altoona as back-to-back singles started the game before Jerrick Suiter plated both with a bloop two-run double down the left field line and Michael Suchy extended the lead with a two-run shot off of Baysox RHP Lucas Long.

Austin Hays’ two-run shot in the home half of the frame cut the lead in half and made it a 4-2 game. The home run was Hays’ seventh of the year with the Baysox.

In the bottom of the third, Erick Salcedo drew a leadoff walk and later scored from first on Hays’ RBI double to bring the Baysox within a run at 4-3.

Altoona quickly responded with a run of their own in the fourth as Anderson Feliz reached with a one-out double and scored on an error charged to Hays in center field later in the inning.

Salcedo led off the fifth with a single, advanced to second on a throwing error charged to Curve starterTanner Anderson and scored on Wynns’ RBI double to cut the lead to 5-4.

Anderson (n/d) surrendered the four runs (three earned) on five hits to go along with two walks and six strikeouts in five innings of work.

Long (n/d) gave up five runs (four earned) while fanning three in 7.0 IP.

Hays (2-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, R), Salcedo (2-3, BB, 2 R), Wynns (2-5, 2B, RBI, R) and Yastrzemski (2-4, BB, R) all had a multi-hit game for the Baysox.
