Baysox’ winning streak snapped by Richmond in 11-7 loss

Baysox FieldRichmond scored nine runs over the second, third and fourth innings and the Bowie Baysox (46-42) dropped an 11-7 decision to the Flying Squirrels (36-50) on Saturday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

The loss snaps a 10-game winning streak at home and is the first loss at Prince George’s Stadium for Bowie since June 16.

Richmond took the lead for good at 6-3 with a four-run third as a solo shot from C.J. Hinojosa tied the game at three and after a walk, hit by pitch and single loaded the bases, Dylan Davis gave the visitors the lead for good with a two-run single.

Baysox starter Matthew Grimes (3-8) allowed the six runs on seven hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts in 2.1 IP.

Bowie grabbed an early 3-0 lead with a three-run first as a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with nobody out before Garabez Rosa delivered an RBI single, DJ Stewart plated a run with a sac fly and Aderlin Rodriguez knocked home a run of his own via an RBI groundout.

Davis’ two-run shot off of Grimes in the top of the second brought the Flying Squirrels within a run at 3-2.

Richmond starter Tyler Herb (1-0) surrendered five runs on eight hits while walking three and fanning four in five innings of work. RHP Tyler Cyr (1.2 IP, 1 H) got the final four outs to pick up his 11th save.

Three straight walks started the fourth inning for the Squirrels before Brandon Bednar came through with a two-run single as part of a three-run frame to stretch the lead to 9-3.

All three runs were charged to Baysox RHP Jason Garcia (2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, K).

Adrian Marin and Mike Yastrzemski started the fifth for Bowie with back-to-back singles beforeAustin Hays came through with an RBI single and Stewart followed with a sac fly to bring the hosts within 9-5.

KC Hobson’s solo shot in the sixth off of RHP Jefri Hernandez (3.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K) made it a 10-5 game in favor of the Flying Squirrels.

Rodriguez’s two-run shot in the bottom half of the eighth inning cut the Richmond lead to 10-7. The home run was Rodriguez’s 13th of the season.

Marin (4-5, 2 R, SB) and Yastrzemski (2-4, 2 R) both had a multi-hit game for manager Gary Kendall’s squad. The four hits for Marin tied a career-high, the fourth four-hit game of his career.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. with RHP Jesus Liranzo (1-3, 4.88) getting the start for Bowie against Richmond RHP Cory Taylor (2-7, 5.00).
