Baysox rally late, but fall short in 8-6 loss

The Bowie Baysox (42-41) rallied late, but dropped the series finale to the Akron RubberDucks (41-37) by a score of 8-6 on Monday night at Canal Park in Akron.

Trailing 8-6, the Baysox brought the tying run to the plate with a runner at first and two outs in the eighth, but LHP David Speer (1.0 IP, BB, K) fanned Cedric Mullins to end the inning.

Bowie had plated four in the eighth to get within two runs as a double and a pair of walks loaded the bases with nobody out before Aderlin Rodriguez cleared the base paths with a three-run triple and scored on Mike Yastrzemski’s sac fly.

The triple for Rodriguez marked his first since July 6, 2016 with Frederick (A+).

RHP Cameron Hill (1.0 IP, 2 K) sent the Baysox down in order in the ninth to notch his fifth save.

Akron grabbed an early 4-0 lead with a four-run first as Bobby Bradley plated a pair with a two-run double and Yu Chang hit a two-run homer off of Baysox starter Matthew Grimes.

Chang has hit six home runs in 15 games against Bowie this season.

Bradley tripled to start the third and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-0 game.

In the top of the fourth, Bradley’s three-run shot off of RHP Jefri Hernandez (2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K) extended the lead for the RubberDucks to 8-0.

Grimes (3-7) gave up seven runs on nine hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in 3.1 IP.

Bowie got on the board in the fifth after back-to-back singles put two men on and Adrian Marin plated a run with an RBI double, while Austin Hays delivered an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-2.

Hays (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) and Mullins (3-5, 2B, R) had multi-hit games for the Baysox, while LHP Tim Berry (1.0 IP) and RHP Ryan Meisinger (1.0 IP, 2 K) both had perfect innings in relief.

The Baysox return home to open a three-game set with the Hartford Yard Goats on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Brandon Barker (5-3, 4.55) will get the start for Bowie against Hartford RHP Konner Wade(2-6, 5.34).
