Baysox five-run ninth inning comes up short in 13th inning loss

| July 15, 2017, 11:54 PM

Baysox FieldA ho hum pitcher’s duel turned into a wild finish that saw Altoona win on a 13th inning walk-off home run from Pablo Reyes as Bowie fell 7-6 on Saturday night. For Reyes the dramatic game-winner was his second home run of the night and sixth of the season.

It looked like the late-inning power of Reyes would not be needed. Altoona carried a 4-1 lead into the ninth inning. But the Baysox rallied incredibly in the final frame. Against starter Alex McRae, Garabez Rosa and Stevie Wilkerson singled. In came reliever Sean Keselica, who quickly walked Aderlin Rodriguez and the rally was on.

Down 4-3, Audry Perez provided a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to tie the game scoring Austin Wynns. After a walk and a wild pitch followed, Mike Yastrzemski singled home two more and the Baysox were on the verge of a brilliant win on top 6-4.

But Altoona came back. Reyes hit the first of his two home runs on the night with one down. Then with two retired, Elvis Escobar struck out swinging over a Ryan Meisinger slider. But the ball was in the dirt and bounced by Wynns allowing Escobar to reach. After a walk following, Edwin Espinal singled to tie the game at 6.

With the defeat, the Baysox lead the West by one game over Altoona. The lead is two on surging Erie and three on Akron. The ballgame was a third game to go 13 innings or longer this season for Bowie. The Baysox have lost all three and are 4-7 in extra innings contests.

The series finale will pit LHP Tanner Scott on the hill as Bowie looks to take three of four. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on, and via the WNAV, MILB and Tune-In Radio Apps. The game will also be on the radio on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.

Bowie returns home Thursday, July 20th for a big four-game series with Altoona. Fireworks follow the Friday and Saturday evening games. Get tickets at 301-805-6000 or online at
