$5000 reward for information on Coconut Charlie’s fire

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Anne Arundel County Fire Department (AACoFD) have announced a reward in relation to the fire that occurred on Friday, July 28, 2017, at Coconut Charlie’s Bar and Grill, located at 9129 Fort Smallwood Road, Pasadena, Md. ATF and AACoFD are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the intentionally set fire.

The investigation into the incident, which has been officially classified as Incendiary, is being led by the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit with assistance from the ATF Baltimore Field Division.

On Friday, July 28th around 3:05 a.m. Anne Arundel County firefighters were dispatched to a fire alarm sounding at the Coconut Charlie’s. The call from the alarm company was quickly followed by 9-1-1 calls reporting a building fire at the establishment.
First arriving firefighters reported fire on the side of the one story bar and grill. Further investigation found heavy fire in the attic area of the restaurant. A second alarm was requested, bringing 75 firefighters to the scene. The fire was extinguished in about 90 minutes, but not before causing extensive damage to the building. One firefighter received minor injuries following a fall from a ladder and was treated on the scene. Damages from the fire have been estimated at $200,000.
“We thank the ATF for their support in our continuing relationship and encourage anyone with information to call the anonymous TIPS line,” said Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Allan Graves. “We are thankful that the injury to our firefighter was minor. However, the results could have been much worse,” he said.
“Arson is an extremely violent crime that not only destroys property but also places firefighters, first responders and the general public at great risk,” said Daniel L. Board Jr., Special Agent in Charge for the ATF Baltimore Field Division. “The ATF, along with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and our other law enforcement partners, are committed to ensuring that our communities are safe and that those who commit these dangerous acts are held accountable.”
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the ATF 24/7 hotline at 888-ATF-TIPS (1-888-283-8477) or send an email to [email protected]. Citizens can also send a text anonymously via the ReportIt® mobile app, available through www.reportit.com, using the ATF Baltimore Field Division as the location. Additionally, tips can submitted by calling AACoFD at 410-222-TIPS or via the AACoFD section of www.aacounty.org.
