Salcedo’s walk-off single lifts Baysox to 7-6 win in 11th

Baysox FieldErick Salcedo’s walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th lifted the Bowie Baysox (30-27) to a 7-6 win over the Altoona Curve (30-24) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

In the bottom of the 11th, Stevie Wilkerson led off with a double, advanced to third on a Jay Gonzalez sac bunt and scored on Salcedo’s walk-off single with two outs in the inning to lift the Baysox to their second walk-off win of the series.

RHP Montana DuRapau (1.2 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 2 K) was dealt the loss for the Curve and drops to 2-2.

LHP Tim Berry (1.0 IP) earned the win for Bowie to improve to 1-0 on the year.

The Baysox used a four-run first to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. A double and a pair of walks loaded the bases before a bases-loaded walk allowed a run to score and Aderlin Rodriguez knocked home a pair with a two-run single. Salcedo also plated a run with an RBI single of his own.

Altoona tied things at four apiece with a four-run inning of their own in the second. Pablo Reyes came through with a two-run single, while Kevin Newman and Kevin Kramer also drove home runs in the frame.

Curve starter Brandon Waddell (n/d) gave up four runs on two hits while walking three and fanning one in 0.2 IP.

Jordan Luplow’s solo shot in the top of the third off of Baysox starter Brandon Barker gave the visitors a 5-4 lead.

In his return from the DL, OF Cedric Mullins delivered a solo shot off of RHP Austin Coley (5.1 IP, 7 H, R, ER, 3 K) in the home half of the fourth to tie things at five apiece for the Baysox. The home run was Mullins’ fifth of the season.

With things tied at five, the Curve had runners at second and third with nobody out in the sixth, but RHP Ryan Meisinger (2.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 3 K) came on in relief of Barker and struck out the side to escape the jam.

Barker (n/d) gave up the five runs on eight hits while walking three and fanning three in five plus innings of work.

Newman led off the seventh for Altoona with a double, took third on a flyout and scored on Connor Joe’s RBI single to give the Curve a 6-5 lead for the time being.

Rodriguez’s solo shot in the home half of the frame tied the game at six apiece for the Baysox. The home run was Rodriguez’s team-leading ninth of the season.

Six different Baysox had multi-hit games: Glynn Davis (2-5), Adrian Marin (2-6, 2B, R), Mullins (2-5, HR, RBI, 2 R), Rodriguez (4-5, HR, 3 RBI, R), Salcedo (2-6, 2 RBI) and Wilkerson (2-5, 2B, R).

The four hits for Rodriguez tied a career-high and the multi-hit game for Wilkerson was his fourth straight.

RHP Lucas Long (3.0 IP, BB, 3 K) had a scoreless outing in relief for Bowie.

The Baysox will have an off day Monday before opening a three-game set with the Reading Fightin Phils on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as LHP John Means (2-6, 4.66) will be on the bump for Bowie against Reading RHP Tyler Viza (3-3, 5.59).
