Baysox drop heartbreaker in series finale 4-3

Baysox FieldKyle Martin’s two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Reading Fightin Phils (31-25) to a 4-3 win over the Bowie Baysox (31-29) in the series finale on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.

RHP Jesus Liranzo (0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER) was tagged with the loss for the Baysox and falls to 1-3 on the year.

LHP Austin Davis (1.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K) got the win for Reading to improve to 1-0.

Bowie left 12 men on base in the game.

The Baysox took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Stevie Wilkerson reached with a two-out double and scored on Garabez Rosa’s RBI single.

Reading tied things at one in the fourth as Andrew Pullin reached on an error charged to Baysox 2B Adrian Marin, advanced to second on an error and scored on Angelo Mora’s two-out RBI single.

Bowie starter Tanner Scott (n/d) gave up one hit while walking one and fanning three over three shutout innings.

Reading starter Miguel Nunez (n/d) gave up two runs on seven hits while walking and fanning a pair in 4.1 IP of work.

In the top of the fifth, Marin got on base with a one-out single, advanced to third following a pair of singles and scored on Aderlin Rodriguez’s sac fly to give the Baysox the lead at 2-1.

Bowie added a run in the eighth as Austin Wynns doubled to start the frame, took third on a sac bunt and scored on Cedric Mullins’ sac fly to make it a 3-1 game.

Malquin Canelo’s sac fly in the home half of the frame brought the Fightin Phils within 3-2. The run was charged to RHP Miguel Castro (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 K).

Rodriguez (3-4, RBI), Rosa (2-5, RBI) and Wilkerson (3-5, 2B, R) had multi-hit games for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

The Baysox will head to Trenton to open a three-game set with the Thunder on Friday night at ARM & HAMMER Park. First pitch is slated at 7:00 p.m. with RHP Lucas Long (5-1, 1.75) slated to be on the bump for Bowie against Trenton RHP Domingo Acevedo (2-0, 1.78).
