5 run ninth lifts Fisher Cats over Baysox 9-5

For the second straight night, the Bowie Baysox (31-36) fell short in the ninth as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (28-37) plated five in the inning to pick up a 9-5 victory over the Baysox on Friday night at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

Ryan McBroom’s RBI single tied the game at five apiece before Harold Ramirez delivered a two-run single to give the Fisher Cats a 7-5 lead. Gunnar Heidt delivered an RBI double later in the frame to extend the lead to 9-5.

LHP Garrett Cleavinger (1.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB) was tagged with the loss for Bowie and falls to 1-3 on the year.

RHP Dusty Isaacs (1.0 IP, H, K) got the win for New Hampshire to even his record at 2-2.

The Fisher Cats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the second when Heidt walked, advanced to second on a 5-2 double play and scored on Derrick Loveless’ two-out RBI single.

In the home half of the frame, Adam Brett Walker (2-4, 2 R) got on base with a one-out single, advanced to second on a throwing error charged to Dawson, took third on an infield single and scored on Austin Wynns’ (2-4, RBI) RBI single to tie things at one apiece.

Richard Urena’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the fourth opened up a 3-1 lead for New Hampshire.

The Baysox quickly responded with two runs of their own to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning as a ground-rule double and a single put two men on before DJ Stewart (2-3, RBI, SB) delivered an RBI single and Audry Perez knocked home a run with an RBI fielder’s choice.

In the fifth, Cedric Mullins led off with a double down the left field line and scored on Garabez Rosa’s RBI single to give the Baysox a 4-3 advantage.

All four runs were charged to New Hampshire starter Shane Dawson (n/d) who allowed the four runs (three earned) on eight hits in five innings of work.

Bowie added an insurance run in the home half of the sixth as Perez reached second on a fielder’s choice when Stewart was caught in a rundown between third and home and Perez scored on Adrian Marin’s two-out RBI double to make it a 5-3 game.

Heidt’s solo shot off of RHP Jason Garcia (2.0 IP, H, R, ER, 4 K) in the top of the eighth brought the Fisher Cats within 5-4.

Baysox starter Matthew Grimes (n/d) gave up three runs on 10 hits while walking three and fanning one in 6.0 IP.

The series continues on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. as RHP Jesus Liranzo (1-3, 6.85) will make his first start of the year for Bowie against New Hampshire RHP Sean Reid-Foley (3-4, 5.40).
