Rain-shortened game gives Baysox a 3-1 win

Baysox FieldTanner Scott faced the minimum in three dominant innings and the Baysox scored three first inning runs before the rains came in a 3-1 win in Akron Sunday night. The game was halted after a driving rain storm hit with one out in the top of the sixth inning.

Scott was dialed in, pitching just minutes from his childhood home, as he faced the minimum in three scoreless innings. He allowed a leadoff single to Luigi Rodriguez but then got a double play ball following. Scott retired the final eight batters faced, striking out four.

And the Baysox had already given him a lead. The first four Baysox batters reached base to open the game. Jay Gonzalez walked in a five pitch at bat to open the game. The Baysox then got three consecutive singles. DJ Stewart and Garabez Rosa each drove home runs. Later on a tapper in front of the plate, Stewart raced home from third after the throw to first base to score the third run of the inning.

Miguel Castro (2-0) came on to work the final two innings for the win. He left a runner stranded at third with one down in the fifth inning with back to back strikeouts to end the frame.

The game started 45 minutes late due to rain. The win is a fourth in the last five games for the Baysox.

The series concludes Monday, May 29th at 1:05 p.m. as RHP Matthew Grimes will get the start. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on wnav.com, baysox.com and via the WNAV, Tune-In and MILB Apps.

The Baysox return for a six-game homestand beginning with three games with Erie on Tuesday, May 30th at 6:35 p.m. The homestand features Star Wars Night Saturday, June 3rd and the Helicopter Candy Drop post-game Sunday, June 4th. Get your tickets at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
