Harrisburg hits 3 home runs as Baysox fall 12-4

Baysox FieldAfter Bowie grabbed an early lead, Harrisburg dialed up the long ball three times over, sending the Baysox to a 12-4 defeat Wednesday night from City Island.

The Baysox led 2-0 after an RBI-double from Adrian Marin in the second inning. Marin was retired trying to stretch the double to a triple. Still, Marin finished just a home run shy of the cycle in the contest, going 3-for-5 with an RBI in the contest.

Harrisburg though turned the game around with two down in the second inning. After Baysox starter David Hess retired the first five batters faced, Senators catcher Raudy Read lined a home run into the Harrisburg pen to right field to make it 2-1. Three batters later, second baseman Stephen Perez did the same and Harrisburg led 4-2.

A two-run home run from Neftali Soto in the third inning pushed forth the Senators advantage which would swell to 9-2 with three unearned runs in the fourth inning.

The Baysox did get a home run from Yermin Mercedes, his first in his young Eastern league career. Jefri Hernandez worked two solid scoreless innings in the game. Earlier in the day, Baysox pitcher Miguel Castro was called to the big leagues, joining the Orioles in Detroit. Outfielder Randolph Gassaway was promoted from Advanced-A Frederick and he struck out pinch-hitting in the ninth inning in his first at-bat with Bowie.

The series comes to a close tomorrow morning as Tanner Scott makes the 10:30 a.m. start. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on baysox.com, wnav.com and via the MILB, Tune-In Radio and WNAV Apps.
