Grimes tosses gem as Baysox top RubberDucks, 6-4

Baysox FieldRHP Matthew Grimes allowed just one run over six innings of work and the Bowie Baysox (27-24) won their third straight with a 6-4 victory over the Akron RubberDucks (22-24) in the series finale on Monday afternoon at Canal Park in Akron.
Grimes (2-4) gave up the one run on five hits while walking one and fanning two in his 6.0 IP.

Trailing 6-1 in the seventh, the RubberDucks cut the lead to 6-4 with Eric Haase’s three-run shot off of LHP Garrett Cleavinger (1.0 IP, H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB).

RHP Lucas Long (2.0 IP, K) came on in relief of Cleavinger and got the final six outs to notch his third save of the year for Bowie.

In the top of the first, Adrian Marin drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a throwing error charged to Akron starter Matt Whitehouse and scored when Garabez Rosa drove in his Eastern League leading 40th run of the season with a two-out RBI single to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

A pair of RBI doubles in the second inning from Marin and Erick Salcedo (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) extended the lead for Bowie to 3-0.
Stevie Wilkerson’s two-run shot off of Whitehouse in the top of the third opened up a 5-0 advantage for the Baysox.
Whitehouse (1-2) allowed the five runs (four earned) on five hits to go along with two walks and a strikeout in 2.2 IP.
Rosa (3-5, 2B, RBI, R) doubled with one out in the fifth and scored later the inning on an Armando Araiza RBI single that gave the Baysox a 6-0 edge.

Akron got on the board in the sixth with Luigi Rodriguez’s solo shot off of Grimes, which cut the lead to 6-1.
The Baysox return home to open a three-game set with the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night at Prince George’s Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. as RHP Brandon Barker (2-1, 4.20) will be on the bump for Bowie against Erie LHP Tyler Alexander (2-3, 4.89).
