4 run 2nd inning lifts Baysox to 10-5 victory

Baysox FieldThe Bowie Baysox (24-23) took control of the game with a four-run second and won their second straight with a 10-5 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats (21-24) in the series finale on Thursday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

Garabez Rosa delivered the big blow in the four-run second with a two-run single, Tucker Nathans knocked home a run with an RBI single and Adrian Marin reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to score to open up a 5-2 lead for Bowie.

Yard Goats starter Parker French (3-4) surrendered eight runs on 10 hits and issued three walks over four plus innings.

The Baysox jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Marin got on base with a one-out single and scored from first on DJ Stewart’s RBI double.

Hartford responded with a run of their own in the top of the second when Dillon Thomas reached on a one-out single, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on Dom Nunez’s two-out RBI single.

Solo shots from Max White and Ryan McMahon off of Baysox starter Brandon Barker in the top of the third brought the Yard Goats within 5-3.

Rosa’s two-run shot in the home half of the fourth opened up a 7-3 advantage for Bowie. The home run was Rosa’s sixth of the season.

In the top of the fifth, McMahon led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Thomas’ sac fly to cut the Baysox lead to 7-4.

Barker (2-1) gave up the four runs on seven hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts in 5.0 IP. RHP Jesus Liranzo (3.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 3 K) and RHP Ryan Meisinger (1.0 IP, H) combined to close things out for the Baysox.

The 3.0 IP for Liranzo marked his longest outing since he went three at Hartford on August 17, 2016.

Randolph Gassaway started Bowie’s half of the fifth with a single, took second on a walk and scored on Stevie Wilkerson’s RBI double down the right field line to make it an 8-4 game in favor of the hosts.

Stewart reached on an error to lead off the sixth, advanced to third on Rosa’s single and scored on an RBI fielder’s choice from Nathans to extend the Baysox lead to 9-5.

An error, single and walk loaded the bases for the Baysox with nobody out in the eighth before Armando Araizaplated a run with an RBI bloop single to give Bowie a 10-5 edge.

Araiza (2-4, 2B, R), Marin (2-5, RBI, 2 R), Nathans (2-4, 2 RBI), Rosa (3-5, HR, 4 RBI, R) and Stewart (2-4, 2B, RBI, 3 R) all had multi-hit games for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

The Baysox head to Akron to open a four-game set with the RubberDucks on Friday night at Canal Park. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. as LHP John Means (2-4, 4.02) will be on the bump for Bowie against Akron RHP Nick Pasquale (3-3, 3.30).
