2 Run Inning sparks Baysox to 7-2 win

Baysox FieldDJ Stewart homered and David Hess picked up his league leading sixth win of the season as the Baysox upended Akron 7-2 Saturday Night.

After a 10-0 defeat a night ago, Stewart got the Baysox started on the right foot this evening. He lifted a two-run home run off of the batters eye in center field to give the Baysox a 2-0 first inning advantage. The drive was his eighth home run of the season.

Baysox starting pitcher David Hess then went to work in a night where he battled. After the first four batters reached base bringing in a run, Hess went to work. He struck out consecutive batters and then got a groundout to preserve a 2-1 lead.

The Baysox got two runs in the fourth inning and then blew the game open with a two-out rally in the fifth frame. With Jay Gonzalez at third base and two down, Garabez Rosa lined a first pitch fastball for an RBI-single to center. Austin Wynn’s then lined a sharp double into the corner in left field to score Rosa from first. And Aderlin Roderiguez singled Wynns home with a line drive single up the middle. The Bowie lead was 7-1.

Time Berry took over for Hess in the sixth inning and worked three innings allowing a run on four hits. Ryan Meisinger worked through a one-out double in a scoreless ninth inning.

Hess becomes the first Eastern League pitcher to six wins with the victory. He has eclipsed his 2016 win total with Bowie. Gonzalez reached base four times in the game with three hits and a walk. Wynns drove home two runs in the contest. The Baysox are now back above .500 (25-24) and have risen to second place in the Western Division.

The series continues Sunday, May 28th at 6:35 p.m. as fireballing LHP Tanner Scott goes to work with the start. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.

The Baysox return for a six-game homestand beginning with three games with Erie on Tuesday, May 30th at 6:35 p.m. The homestand features Star Wars Night Saturday, June 3rd and the Helicopter Candy Drop post-game Sunday, June 4th. Get your tickets at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
