Tillman starts in Bowie’s 3-1 defeat in Harrisburg

| April 22, 2017, 11:56 PM

Baysox FieldDue to bad weather in Frederick, Chris Tillman came to Harrisburg for his second rehab start in his journey back to the Orioles rotation. He allowed three runs in 3 and 2/3rd innings and the Baysox failed to battle back as they fell by a 3-1 final in Harrisburg Saturday evening.

Tillman allowed three consecutive hits to open the game – all against left-handed hitters. Andrew Stevenson lined a single to left which was followed by a bloop single over short from Alec Keller. With runners at the corners, Drew Ward hit a chopper up the middle that skidded underneath the glove of Baysox second baseman Sean Coyle for an RBI-single. The next batter, Neftali Soto grounded into a double play that brought home a second run.

In the second inning, Senators centerfielder Zach Collier hit a home run to right off of a fastball at the knees to push the Harrisburg lead to 3-0. Tillman settled in retiring ten of the final 12 batters faced in the contest.

Bowie got a second straight big night from left fielder DJ Stewart, who went 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in the game. It was the second consecutive three-hit game for the former Orioles first round pick. Two of the three hits for Stewart were doubles.

Matthew Grimes came on with a runner at second and two down in the fourth inning. He got a strikeout to end that frame and then threw four more scoreless innings. Grimes allowed just one hit in his solid effort.

Brandon Barker will be on the hill for his fourth start of the season Sunday afternoon in Harrisburg in the rubber match of the three-game series. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on baysox.com, wnav.com and via the MILB, Tune-In Radio and WNAV Apps.

Bowie returns home Friday, April 28th at 7:05 p.m. for a celebration of Prince with the Akron RubberDucks in town. Get your tickets at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
