Rodriguez drives Baysox to double-header split

| April 09, 2017, 08:02 PM

After losing a late lead in the opener, the Baysox left nothing to chance in game two. Bowie bludgeoned Akron to the tune of a 9-1 final to take three of four in the seasons opening series from Canal Park.

In game two the Baysox jumped out to an early lead with RBI-doubles from Audry Perez and Drew Dosch. Up 2-0 in the first, spot-starter Lucas Long worked an eight pitch 1-2-3 inning that set the table for an outstanding start. Long (1-0) allowed just a run in 5 and 2/3rd innings.

The Baysox would then blow it open. Up 3-0 in the fourth inning, Austin Wynns and Erick Salcedo singled. With two down, Cedric Mullins came to the plate and deposited a no doubt about it home run into the right field seats to double the Bowie advantage to 6-0. It was Mullins second home run of the year in a series in which he scored nine runs.

Aderlin Rodriguez got in on the fun as well. After hitting a dramatic home run that gave Bowie the lead in game one, Rodriguez hit his second shot of both the day and season late in game two. The two-run drive made it 9-1.

Game one was a back and forth affair. The Baysox led 5-3 to the bottom of the sixth after trailing for the majority of the contest. Akron rallied, as the first four batters would reach in the frame. They all came around to score to make it 7-5 Ducks. Bowie got a run in the seventh inning on an RBI-single from Dosch but it wasn’t enough in a 7-6 defeat.

Both Dosch and Rodriguez had five hits in the doubleheader. Dosch registered seven RBI’s in the opening series. Ryan Meisinger worked 1 and 2/3rd innings of scoreless relief work in game two – his second consecutive scoreless outing. David Hess was strong in a game one start, striking out five batters in the first two innings while leaving in line for the win.

The Baysox now head to Erie where Tanner Scott will make his 2017 debut. First pitch against the SeaWolves will be set for 6:35 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on 1430-WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.
