Late Erie rally foils Baysox big start

For the second time in as many days, the Baysox lost a multi-run, late-inning lead as the Baysox dropped a 9-8, ten-inning contest after leading by seven runs early.

A two-out rally in the tenth inning lifted Erie to the victory. After an infield single and a walk set the table, Gabriel Quintana provided his second walk-off single in as many days with a base hit to left field to drive home the game-winning run.

What a start it was for Bowie. Cedric Mullins led off the game with a home run for the second time in five affairs. Mullins third home run of the year was matched when Aderlin Rodriguez launched a two-run home run in the second inning catapulting Bowie to a 6-0 advantage. A Mullins two-out RBI-single in the third would push the lead to 7-0.

But Erie continued to battle back. After Baysox starter Tanner Scott departed following a three inning effort, Jason Garcia went to work. Garcia worked two hitless innings before the wild sixth frame. The Baysox committed three errors in the inning and Erie plated three runs in a frame in which they sent nine men to the plate.

Erie scored twice in the seventh inning to cut a four-run deficit to two at 8-6. In the eighth a controversial ruling would tie it. Mike Gerber hit a ball high off the left field wall near the yellow line. It was ruled to have hit above the line for a game-tying two-run home run. The Baysox argued vociferously that the ball hit underneath which would have resulted in an RBI-double. The argument was to no avail and the game was tied.

The series continues Tuesday, April 11th at 6:35 p.m. as Matthew Grimes gets his first start of the year for Bowie. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior on baysox.com, wnav.com and via the Tune In, WNAV and MILB apps.

Opening Day in Bowie is Thursday, April 13th with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch against the Harrisburg Senators. The first 500 fans through the gate will get a 25th Season 2017 Magnet Schedule courtesy of Money One Federal Credit Union. Get tickets online at baysox.com.
