Bowie drops series finale to Senators 7-4

| April 15, 2017, 06:48 PM

Baysox FieldA six-run fifth proved to be costly as the Bowie Baysox (6-4) dropped the series finale to the Harrisburg Senators (5-5) by a score of 7-4 on Saturday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie.

In the afore-mentioned six-run fifth, Raudy Read provided the big blow in the inning with a two-run shot while Neftali Soto knocked home a run with an RBI double and Drew Ward plated one with an RBI single for the Senators.

Making his season debut, RHP Bobby Bundy (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Bowie after allowing three runs on five hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in 1.2 IP. The other runs in the fifth inning were charged to RHP Jefri Hernandez (1.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB).

A pair of runs in the second opened up an early 2-0 lead for the Baysox. Aderlin Rodriguez and Audry Perez started the inning with back-to-back singles, moved in to scoring position with a hit by pitch and both scored later in the frame on an RBI single from Adrian Marin and a sac fly delivered by Jay Gonzalez.

Bowie starter Tanner Scott (n/d) did not allow a hit while walking two and fanning four in three innings of work.

The Baysox cut the lead to 6-4 with two runs in the fifth as OF Cedric Mullins led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Drew Dosch’s RBI groundout. Rodriguez knocked home his second run of the day with an RBI single.

Mullins’ double extended his hitting streak to 10 games, which is the longest hitting streak by a Baysox player since Garabez Rosa hit in 10 straight from July 19-29, 2016.

Harrisburg RHP Greg Ross (2-0) surrendered four hits on eight hits to go along with two walks and three strikeouts in 5.0 IP. RHP Wander Suero got the final six outs to notch his first save of the year.

The Senators extended the lead to 7-4 in the eighth as Zach Collier led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch charged to RHP Ryan Meisinger(2.0 IP, H, R, ER, 2 K). The run was the first one allowed by Meisinger this season.

RHP Jesus Liranzo (1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Gary Kendall’s squad.

Bowie will be off on Sunday for Easter and will return to action on Monday night at 6:35 p.m. when the Richmond Flying Squirrels come to Prince George’s Stadium for a four-game series. RHP Chris Tillman gets the ball for the Baysox on Major League rehab and will be opposed by LHP Matt Gage (0-0, 1.80).
