Baysox leave 14 stranded on base in 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Flying Squirrels

Baysox FieldIn a game full of missed opportunities, the Baysox saw a one-run ninth inning lead slip away. Richmond plated two in the bottom of the ninth inning as Bowie absorbed a tough 2-1 defeat Tuesday night at The Diamond.

The Baysox had opportunities from the get go. The leadoff man reached for the Baysox in each of the first six innings. Bowie had 15 at-bats with a runner in scoring position and 14 men left on base for the night. The Baysoxhad a runner in scoring position in seven of nine innings. In the end, the lone Baysox run came on a two-out, RBI-single in the fourth inning from Adrian Marin.

That looked for much of the night to be enough. Starter John Means was outstanding again. He worked six scoreless innings allowing three hits while fanning five batters. In his first four starts in 2017, Means has allowed a total of three runs.

Lucas Long entered out of the pen and worked two scoreless frames. In the ninth inning though, Richmond got to him. Miguel Gomez led off the inning with a single. With one down, Hunter Cole doubled to the wall in right-center to tie the game. Then with two down, Cole was brought home on a single to right field by Carlos Garcia to end it.

The loss sent Bowie to 9-9 on the season. It was a fifth in the last six games for the Baysox. Bowie remains just a game out of first in the Western Division, trailing Altoona, heading into Wednesday morning’s series finale with Richmond.
