Anne Arundel Police investigating Glen Burnie murder-suicide

murder-suicideOn October 28, 2016, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Police Department received a 9-1-1 call requesting police check on the well-being of Da’von Markell Mullins,22, of Baltimore. The caller, a family member of Mullins, advised Mullins had sent several concerning text messages and the caller became worried about his welfare. The caller provided Mullins’ current whereabouts as his girlfriend’s apartment in the 400 Block of Glen Mar Road in Glen Burnie, however did not know which specific apartment.

Upon arrival, officers canvassed the apartment building knocking on doors and contacting several associates of the subject. They were eventually able to identify the apartment unit of Mullins’ girlfriend. Officers did not get any response from knocking on the door or calling. Officers were able to enter the apartment utilizing a key provided by maintenance. When officers entered the apartment, they discovered an adult female, identified as Kayla Yow, 18, deceased in the living room. Yow appeared to have been suffering from upper body trauma. Officers also discovered an adult male, later identified as Davon Mullins, also suffering from upper body trauma. There was a handgun recovered at the scene.

Paramedics responded to the scene. Ms. Yow was confirmed deceased at the scene. Mullins was transported from the scene to an area hospital by EMS. Mullins died at the hospital a short time later.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department Homicide Unit was called in to investigate this incident. The preliminary investigation indicates Ms. Yow and Mr. Mullins had been in a relationship and this incident was an apparent homicide – suicide. Ms. Yow’s remains were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of her death.
