Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Scholarship Trust
The Trust’s mission is to work with the community to provide the inspiration, mentoring and financial support for first-generation students so they can complete a higher education. The Annapolis & Anne Arundel Scholarship Trust is currently in need of skilled professionals who are interested in volunteering to support our re-launch and extend our services. We are looking for marketing, communications or fundraising expertise and ability to develop and implement a program that will raise funds for our scholarships, programs and operations. Annapolis Community Boating
Annapolis Community Boating is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to creating safe, fun and educational on-the-water opportunities for the entire community. ACB serves as an umbrella group identifying and coalescing existing resources within the community to create meaningful experiences that promote recreation, conservation and a closer relationship with the Chesapeake Bay and her surrounding waters. Volunteers, ages 16 and older, are needed to help in a variety of ways including: social fundraisers or our annual vocal competition; with clerical projects, like mailings and office tasks; providing housing for one of our performers; assisting with transporting singers to and from the airport or train station; serving refreshments, post-performance receptions, and more. AA County Dept. of Aging & Disabilities Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)
Medicare is the health insurance for 44 million Americans. Yet most people are intimidated by Medicare and think Medicare is too complex and confusing. Many people with Medicare need an advocate to help them understand their Medicare benefits. Are you interested in learning about Medicare? Do you want to help other people with their Medicare-related issues? The SHIP program trains volunteers on Medicare; these volunteers then assist others in the community with Medicare-related issues. SHIP counselors help people select Part D drug plans, and understand their options for Medigap or Medicare Advantage Plans. Because the information provided by SHIP counselors must remain unbiased, insurance agents will not be considered for SHIP volunteer positions. Greyhound Welfare, Inc.
The mission of this all volunteer nonprofit is to place ex-racing greyhounds into adoptive homes and to educate the public on greyhound and animal welfare. Volunteers, 21 and older, help with public outreach, the newsletter, screening adoption applications, adoption-follow-up, dog-transport to special events, planning and implementing fundraising events and donation drives, order supplies, write routine correspondence, pick up donations, coordinate veterinary care, foster a greyhound during the transition period before an adoptive home is found, and much more. Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival, Sat. Sept. 24, 2016
Volunteer opportunities are available to help with the 27th Annual Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival 2016 being held at Susan Campbell Park at the Annapolis City Dock. The annual Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival, coordinated by Kunta Kinte Celebrations, Inc., raises an awareness of the African-American heritage and the common challenges encountered by all ethnic groups striving to preserve their culture. The festival will be held at the Annapolis City Dock, Sat., Sept. 24, 2016 from 10:00a.m– 7:00 p.m. Volunteer opportunities are available for: set up, refreshments, clean up, children’s activities, and much more. Project Linus- Anne Arundel County
Project Linus is a volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission. First, it is the mission of Project Linus to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Second, it is the mission of Project Linus to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in our community, for the benefit of children. The Anne Arundel County Chapter of Project Linus meets on the third Saturday of each month (except July & August) from 10am till noon at the Severna Park Community Center on Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. in Severna Park. Summer Garden Theatre
At this time, ASGT is accepting resumes from individuals interested in serving on its volunteer Board of Directors in the following positions, which are vacant or up for re-election this year: President, Secretary, Box Office, Public Relations, Development, Volunteer, Technical, and Production. Serving on the Board is a great way to learn new skills, grow your resume, and give back to the community. Winter Relief Program, mid-October through early April–Rotating Locations
About 70 Houses of Worship and a dozen partnering churches will provide sheltering sites together with Arundel House of Hope to support a shelter program from late October until early April. For one week at a time, participating churches host men and women in need of a hot meal and shelter for the night and breakfast the next morning. The Winter Relief Program needs volunteers to assist at the Intake Center at 514 N. Crain Hwy. in Glen Burnie and to be transportation escorts for showers for our guests.
