Annapolis High School
Volunteer Guest Speakers are needed to come in and meet with our students as a part of our Career and Jobs unit for the first marking period during the fall semester of 2016. Anne Arundel County Board of Elections
Volunteers are needed to serve as an election judge for the 2016 Presidential Election, November 8, 2016. All election judges are required to take a 3-hour training. Volunteers must be a registered Maryland voter, and at least 17 years old, and also: Must be computer literate, reliable and courteous, neatly dressed, possess good judgement and be able to follow procedures exactly; Must be able to speak, read and write the English language; Must be able to work approximately a 15-hour day. While serving as an election judge, a judge may not be a candidate, campaign manager or treasurer for candidate or political committee nor while on duty as an election judge, may not engage in any partisan or political activity. Positions include Check-In, Provisional, and Voting Judge. Descriptions of each position and applications can be found on the website at www.aacounty.org/elections . Anne Arundel County Public Schools
Volunteers, age 18 and up, are being sought to help at all elementary and high schools throughout the year, including alternative education centers such as CAT-North, Central Special and Arlington Echo. We need help with a variety of tasks such as answering phones, reading with children, shelving books, working on beautification projects, and much more. There are opportunities to work from home and at evening and weekend events as well as those at the school of your choice. Whatever one’s skill set, from hobbyist to astrophysicist, there’s a volunteer opportunity with the school system. Community groups and businesses are welcomed. Partners in Care
Partners In Care, a private non-profit, needs volunteers to drive older members of the community to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other necessary errands. Volunteers also provide help with our office work, light honey-do repairs in the home and neighborly assistance such as reading and writing, friendly visits, and help in our Upscale-Resale Boutique. We offer a unique culture of service exchange where neighbors help each other and in return ask for assistance when the need arises. Monthly orientation sessions are offered. The Light House, Run for The Light House, Sun., Sept. 25, 2016
Volunteers are needed to assist on race day starting prior to registration at 7:30 a.m., on Sun., Sept. 25, 2016 for the Annual Annapolis Run for The Light House. The 6th annual Annapolis Run for The Light House provides scenic half-marathon, 5K and 1. 25 mi. walks along the trails of Quiet Waters Park and through the beautiful Chesapeake Bay-front community of Hillsmere Shores. The race start is 8:00 a.m., for the Half Marathon, 7:45 a.m. for the 5K Jogging Joe Shafran Memorial Run, and 9:00 for the Anniversary Walk. Volunteers are needed to assist on Race Day. The mission of The Light House is to help rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition towards self-sufficiency. Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties associated with the food program, children’s programs, front desk help and adult education programs. Pro bono professional volunteers are also needed with specialized skills such as accounting, dentistry, licensed therapists, law, and carpentry. There is a special need at this time for volunteer babysitters to care for our Light House children while parents attend classes, job interviews, medical appointments, etc. Help is needed Monday through Friday for various shifts between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Volunteering parents are welcome to bring along their own child. This is also a wonderful opportunity for teens to earn community service hours when accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Sarah’s House
Sarah’s House has an immediate need for a volunteer kitchen coordinator to monitor, for maintenance, and to prepare luncheon meals in the kitchen on most September 2016 weekdays (Mon.-Fri.) from 9:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. until September 22, 2016. However, on Wednesdays help is needed only to help serve meals provided by an outside source from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The person would not have to bring any food because the menu will be decided prior to arrival and pulled from shelves and thawed in advance. Volunteers are also needed for the FLASH (Fun Learning At Sarah’s House), an after school homework program that takes places from 5:30pm-7:00pm, Monday-Thursday. Women’s Entrepreneurial Conference, September 20, 2016
8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Tues., Sept. 20, 2016, Women’s Entrepreneurial Conference: This all day conference sponsored by SCORE Chapter 390 in Annapolis is being held at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD. It is designed to provide a mix of the practical and inspirational information and is a must for women thinking about starting a business or in the first couple of years of their endeavor. Listen to the experience of successful women entrepreneurs, learn the key elements for success, and network with similarly inclined women and key business partners. SCORE is a group of volunteers with entrepreneurial experience sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration offering mentoring to small business owners and new entrepreneurs; free counseling and general and specialized workshops are provided to clients in Anne Arundel and surrounding counties. The Chapter has a need for business men and women willing to give their time to help entrepreneurs. We invite working and retired executives, small business owners, educators and other professionals to become volunteer mentors. In addition to mentors, SCORE seeks volunteers with strong organizational skills to work with mentors and clients in outreach programs, marketing, setting up and running workshops and general office support. Training is provided.
