Come learn about what it’s like to drive electric as Annapolis Green, partnering with the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater DC and the Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club, hosts the Annapolis Showcase of electric vehicles as part of National Drive Electric Week at Susan Campbell Park on City Dock, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 10.
Owners and dealers of electric vehicles will encourage the public to “Ask me why I drive electric!” with the Historic Annapolis Harbor as a backdrop. At this fun and informative event, the public can get information about what it’s like to drive electric including range, how and where to charge, cost, performance, benefits to the environment, and government incentives.
Most of the vehicles will be brought to the event by individual owners, who can talk about their personal experiences with plug-in transportation. Some will be brought by dealers who can offer information about lease and purchase.
Electric vehicles are good for your wallet and good for the environment. They offer instant torque and quick acceleration makes driving fun. Electric motors are whisper quiet with no vibration. There’s almost no maintenance: The simple drivetrain has few moving parts to repair or replace. By plugging in, drivers can go 100 miles on $4 of electricity — that’s 4 cents per mile! Electric vehicles use domestically produced electricity instead of foreign oil. And more and more electricity is being produced from clean, renewable fuel sources.
Among the vehicles participating are the BMW i3 REx, BMW i8, Cadillac ELR, Chevrolet Volt, Chevy Spark EV, Tesla Model S, BMWi8, Nissan LEAF, Kia Soul,Think City, Mercedes Benz B-Class Electric Drive, Electric Drive Coupe Smart Car, and a converted Porsche 914 and a converted Toyota Prius.
There will be information about charging infrastructure, energy efficiency, and electric boat dealers have been invited to participate.
Annapolis is one of more than 100 cities across the country participating in National Drive Electric Week.
It will be a fun, free, afternoon where the future meets the past at Historic Annapolis Harbor.
