BaysoxThe Baysox completed their 24th season of baseball with an 8-5 loss at Canal Park in Akron, OH on Labor Day afternoon. With the win, Akron clinched the regular season Western Division crown. They will take on the Altoona Curve in the Best-of-Five Western Division Championship Series to begin on Wednesday, September 7th.

Bowie got out to an early lead. Julio Borbon singled and then stole second base. He then scored on a double to centerfield by Chris Dickerson who reached third on the throw to the plate. Drew Dosch hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Dickerson to lead 2-0.

Akron bounced back via the home run. Greg Allen homered to leadoff the bottom of the first and Mike Papi hit a two-run home run amidst a four-run third inning rally.

The Bayspx came back in the fifth. The two out and nobody aboard, Drew Dosch hit his ninth home run of the year into the Akron bullpen in right field. Joey Terdoslavich then followed with a solo shot of his own also into the Akron pen. It was his 14th of the year tying for the team-high with Quincy Latimore. The back-to-back home runs were the first for Bowie since Chris Marrero and David Freitas went back-to-back on August 26th in Erie in 2014.

Bowie was not done yet. Quincy Latimore and Sharlon Schoop then doubled consecutively to tie the game at 5-apiece.

In the sixth inning, Akron rallied to grab the lead with a home run from an unlikely source. Daniel Salters hit his first home run in his 38th game with the club, a two-run shot to right to give Akron the lead. In the end, the three-run rally propelled the RubberDucks to an 8-5 advantage.

Joey Terdoslavich singled home a run in the ninth but it was not enough. Dickerson finished the series with nine hits. Bowie lost seven in a row and 14 of its last 18 to close the year. Borbon became just the ninth player in franchise history and the first in five years to steal 30 or more bases in a year. Bowie finishes the 2016 season with a 56-86 record.
