Baysox fall twice in Akron

baysoxThe Akron RubberDucks moved two steps closer to a postseason berth as the Baysox fell 7-4 in the continuation of a suspended game and 6-3 in the nightcap at Canal Park. The suspended game completed a game that was halted due to rain in Bowie on August 21st.

The day’s proceedings began with Akron leading 6-3 in the fifth inning. Orioles rehabber Brian Duensing worked three solid innings allowing a run on three hits while striking out four batters. Bowie made it interesting in the ninth.

Quincy Latimore walked and scored on a one-out double slapped down the left field line by Julio Borbon. With two down, Chris O’Brien singled to put runners at the corners and bring the tying run to the plate. Joey Terdoslavich just got under a fly ball to left, flying out to end the game at 7-4.

In the nightcap, the Baysox threatened early with two on and no outs but did not score. Akron went to work as the first five batters reached in a four-run rally against Baysox starter Matthew Grimes. Akron would get two more in the second inning to lead Bowie 6-0.

The Baysox battled back to score two unearned runs in the third inning. Bowie newcomer Wynston Sawyer then homered to straight away center in his second Eastern league game to bring the Baysox within 6-3.

Bowie could not sustain their attack though as they grounded into four double plays in the seven-inning game. Jesus Liranzo was strong though working two scoreless innings but the Baysox fell 6-3. With the wins, Akron now is a game ahead of Harrisburg with three days remaining in the season for the final playoff spot. Akron is just a game and a half in back of Altoona for first place.

The Baysox continue the final series of 2016 with Jason Garcia on the hill for his final start of the season. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, September 3rd. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on wnav.com, baysox.com and via the Tune-In radio App by searching Baysox.
