Trenton blanks Baysox

Baysox 2016Baysox batters struck out a season-high 16 times on the way to a 4-1 loss and three game sweep at the hands of the Trenton Thunder Wednesday afternoon. Trenton starter Chance Adams led the charge with 10 strikeouts over 4.2 innings while the bullpen closed out the game with six more strikeouts.  

The Baysox got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning against Trenton starter Chance Adams. Drew Dosch hit a lead-off double to right field and scored on a Chance Sisco one-out single to center field to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder immediately responded in the bottom half of the inning against Baysox starter Jason Garcia. Tyler Wade hit a lead-off ground-rule double and scored on a Dustin Fowler single to center field. Miguel Andujar followed with a walk before Fowler stole third base and scored on a Mark Payton groundout to put Trenton up 2-1. 

Trenton added another run in the bottom of the second inning as back-to-back singles from Dante Bichette Jr. and Francisco Diaz put runners on the corners to start the inning. Michael O’Neill then brought Bichette Jr. home with a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1.

The runs kept coming for the Thunder in the bottom of the fifth inning. Fowler drew a lead-off walk but was forced out at second base when Andujar reached. With two outs, Andujar stole second base and Payton then drew the second walk of the inning before reliever Tanner Scott replaced Garcia on the mound. Scott then surrendered an RBI single to Jose Rosario to put Trenton ahead 4-1. 

Garcia threw 4.2 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking three in the loss. Scott recorded one out in the fifth inning and another to start the sixth inning before coming out of the game. Reliever Scott McGough followed with 1.1 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit and striking out one batter. Reliever Jimmy Yacabonis finished the game with 1.1 scoreless innings, walking one batter and striking out two.

Trenton reliever J.P. Feyereisen earned the win, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings while not allowing a hit and striking out four batters. 

The Baysox return home Thursday, Aug. 25 to begin the team’s final eight game homestand of the season against the Binghamton Mets and Harrisburg Senators. Thursday is Baysox for a Buck night at 7:05 p.m. and tickets purchased by the end of the day Wednesday start at $1.
