Historic Annapolis to host architectural lecture in August

historic annapolisFrom 18th-century ruling pens to modern-day computer modeling, the history of architectural tools has evolved greatly over time. Join Historic Annapolis for a lecture by David Thompson and learn the history of some of these tools.

The lecture will be held at 6:30pm on August 25, 2016 at the James Brice House, located at 42 East Street in downtown Annapolis. Admission is $10 General Admission, $8 for Historic Annapolis Members and Volunteers, and free for Curator’s Circle members. Tickets may be purchased on the Historic Annapolis website at www.annapolis.org, or by calling 410-267-7619.

David Thompson is a recently retired architect and collector of architectural instruments. He won a Historic Annapolis Preservation Award for his outstanding restoration work at the Naval Academy. For this lecture, Thompson will be bringing some select items from his collection to help illustrate the evolution of architectural tools.

“This lecture is particularly exciting for our Curator’s Circle members,” says Pandora Hess, Curator of Collections at Historic Annapolis. “One of the benefits of the Curator’s Circle is free admission to events that are specifically tailored to the members’ interests. David Thompson’s lecture will definitely be a standout event for the group.”

The Curator’s Circle is one of four Premium Benefit Membership Packages that Historic Annapolis offers its members at the $250 level and above. Members receive exclusive tours of public and private art collections in the region, the opportunity to participate in curatorial projects, an invitation to the Curator’s Circle reception, and free admission to collections-related programs and lectures.
