Hess shuts down Binghamton for Baysox win

Baysox 2016Baysox starter David Hess threw six shutout innings on the way to a 5-0 victory over the Binghamton Mets Saturday night. Outfielder Glynn Davis provided early offense with a home run in the second inning to give the Baysox all the runs they would need for the win.

Baltimore Orioles left-handed reliever Brian Duensing pitched for the Baysox on MLB Rehab Assignment. He threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with a walk and two strikeouts. Reliever Bobby Bundy pitched a perfect ninth inning while striking out two batters to finish the game. 

Davis got the Baysox off to a great start in the bottom of the second inning against Binghamton starter Logan Taylor. Chris O’Brien drew a lead-off walk and Davis followed with a home run to left field to give the Baysox a 2-0 lead. 

The Baysox added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning against Binghamton reliever Alberto Baldonado. Quincy Latimore hit a lead-off single to left field and moved to third base on a Henry Urrutia single to right field. Joey Terdoslavich brought Latimore home with a single to right field and Sharlon Schoop followed with a walk to load the bases. Luis Mateo then replaced Baldonado on the mound and allowed a pair of runs to score on an O’Brien single and Davis groundout to make the score 5-0. 

Taylor took the loss, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

The Baysox are home through Thursday, Sep. 1 for the final eight game homestand of the season against the Binghamton Mets and Harrisburg Senators. Sunday is Fan Appreciation Day and fans can Meet the Team of play catch in the outfield from 12:30-1:15 p.m. RHP Matthew Grimes (2-4, 4.34) will make the start for the Baysox.
