First Sunday Arts Festival this Sunday!

First SundayThis Labor Day Weekend the Annapolis Arts District along West Street in downtown Annapolis will be packed with activity on Sunday September 4th. The newly expanded First Sunday Arts festivals will fill West Street with 130 artists and crafters from Church Circle to the Loews Annapolis Hotel with fun and unique shopping from 11am to 5pm. In the middle of the days festivities the annual Annapolis Labor Day Parade will start around 3pm on West Street near Amos Garrett and continuing up West Street to Calvert Street. With these 2 popular events being held simultaneously on West Street you expect a full day of fun and art along the street.

We suggest you start your Sunday morning early in Annapolis Maryland with brunch. West Street has several places that are popular with foodies for brunch including  Miss Shirley’s Cafe, Annapolis, Metropolitan Kitchen and Lounge, BAROAK, 49 West Coffeehouse, Winebar & Gallery, Stan and Joe’s Saloon and Rams Head Tavern Annapolis.

After brunch you will be ready for shopping from some of the regions best local artisans starting at 11am when the First Sunday Arts festival begins. Look for vendors lining West Street and Whitmore Park selling a wide range of fine arts and craft.  Vendor items to shop from including handcrafted jewelry, pottery, glass, clothing, purses, cutting-boards, leather, iron-work, wood-turnings, furniture, sculpture, photography, paintings, garden art, home decor, leather goods, gourmet foods and more. Also check out the local galleries and shop along West Street including one of the streets newest stores, Sparrow. The selection of shopping at First Sunday Arts seems to be getting better year.

When you are ready for a break from shopping stop by a food truck or one of the many cafes along West Street. There is also a lot of free live music on September 4th

When the Labor Day Parade pops up around 3pm find your place along West Street between Calvert Street and Amos Garrett Blvd or take advantage of some unique vantage points along West Street on the patio of BAROAK at the Loews Annapolis Hotel, the roof top of Metropolitan Kitchen and Lounge or inside at the bar of West streets newest restaurant, Sailor.

There will be fun for the kids in Whitmore Park during the festival with the Tattered Hatters. Here anyone can have fun and show off their creative side making free Maddhatter Hats. Plus there will be balloon sculptures, and face painting on the first block of West Street.

After parties will start after the festival with music at Rams Head Tavern Annapolis, art receptions at 49 West Coffeehouse, Winebar & Gallery, gospel sushi at Tsunami Sushi Bar and Lounge and movies at 1747 Pub at Reynolds Tavern.

The First Sunday Arts Festivals are conveniently located in downtown Annapolis, Maryland on West Street and Calvert Streets where parking is a breeze. There are five large parking garages including Whitmore Garage, Gott’s Court Garage and Loews Hotel parking garage, Knighton Garage and the State Parking Garage all located near the days events.

Admission to the First Sunday Arts Festivals is always free. So bring your friends, family and your friendly pets to spend a day out on the town. This years festivals will continue on the first Sunday of each month through November with a bonus festival on the first Sunday of December called the Annapolis Chocolate Binge Festival. First Sunday Arts Festivals hours are 11am to 5pm on Sundays September 4, October 2, November 6 and December 4 from noon to 5pm.
