Bowie avoids sweep in walk-off fashion

Baysox 2016Garabez Rosa was the hero again for the Baysox Wednesday afternoon. After tying the game 5-5 courtesy of a two-run home run by Connor Bierfeldt in the bottom of the eight, Rosa delivered a game winning RBI single to give the Baysox the 6-5 walk-off victory. After trailing all game, the Baysox were able to nearly avoid the series sweep as reliever Tanner Scott earned his first Double-A victory.

For the first time this series, the Baysox scored the game’s first runs. In their first at bat, Julio Borbon hit a lead-off triple to center field off New Hampshire starter Taylor Cole and he scored on a Drew Dosch single to left field to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning Quincy Latimore hit a one-out single to shortstop and moved all the way to third base after a stolen base and wild pitch. Conor Bierfeldt drew a two-out walk and Borbon followed with a single to center field that scored Latimore to make the score 2-0.

In the top of the third frame, the Fisher Cats broke through. Ian Parmley hit a one-out double to center field off Baysox starter Matthew Grimes and he scored on a two-out Richard Urena single to right field to cut the Baysox lead to 2-1.

In the top of the fourth frame Reese McGuire hit a one-out single to center field and stole second base before Emilio Guerrero homered to left field to give the Fisher Cats a 3-2 lead. 

In the fifth inning the Baysox answered. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out and Garabez Rosa plated a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game 3-3.

The Seesaw affair continued in the top of the sixth inning. Derrick Loveless drew a lead-off walk against Baysox reliever Jesus Liranzo and Christian Lopes followed with a one-out home run to left-center field to give New Hampshire a 5-3 lead.

The bottom of the eighth inning, when the Baysox were in jeopardy of getting swept, is when Bowie mounted their comeback. Latimore hit a lead-off double to left field off New Hampshire reliever Murphy Smith and Bierfeldt followed with a one-out home run to left-center field to again tie the game 5-5. 

With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning Joey Terdoslavich singled up the middle off New Hampshire reliever Colton Turner. After Henry Urrutia walked Adrian Marin came into the game to pinch run for Terdoslavich, Rosa followed with a single to right to give the Baysox the 6-5 victory.

Grimes threw five innings and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out two and walking four in the no decision. Liranzo threw two innings and allowed two runs on two hits with two walks and a strikeout. 

The Baysox head to Richmond for a weekend series against the Flying Squirrels before returning home Tuesday, Aug. 16 for a seven-game homestand against the Hartford Yard Goats and Akron RubberDucks. LHP Jayson Aquino (5-9, 3.99) will make the start in the series opener and he will be opposed by LHP Matt Gage (6-7, 4.15).
