Bosom Buddies Charities, a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote breast cancer awareness, encourage early detection, support treatment and celebrate healing, recently elected its 2016-2017 officers and appointed new board members.
The Bosom Buddies Charities’ (BBC) officers for 2016-2017 are Biana Arentz, Chair (Grasonville); Elizabeth DeCesaris, Vice Chair (Annapolis); Karen White, Treasurer (Grasonville); and Lynne Kinney, Secretary (Queenstown). Also appointed to the Board as Directors are Claudia Boldyga (Annapolis); Aileen Carlucci (Chester); Christina Cugle (Chester); Jodie Gray (Stevensville); and Monica Rutherford (Columbia).
BBC Chair Biana Arentz said, “I am honored to be working with such a talented group of women who are dedicated to our organization’s mission. By drawing on their diverse backgrounds and experiences, I am confident that 2017 will be Bosom Buddies Charities’ most successful year.”
Over the past 10 years, through its fundraising efforts, BBC has raised over $1.5 million, which has been awarded through grants to local organizations to assist them in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer. Bosom Buddies Charities was founded by Susan Ponchock who, after surviving the diagnosis of an aggressive type of breast cancer, wanted to help others who had been diagnosed with breast cancer. With the support of local businesses, organizations, and individuals, BBC’s Board of Directors and dozens of volunteers have made Bosom Buddies Charities a powerful voice in gaining awareness about breast cancer throughout the region.
“I’m excited to join forces with Bosom Buddies Charities to support its mission of early detection,” said Vice Chair Elizabeth DeCesaris of Annapolis, a breast cancer survivor. “It is especially important to me to help raise breast cancer awareness among younger women.”
BBC’s Bosom Buddies Ball, its largest fundraiser, will take place on Saturday, January 9, 2017, at The Westin Annapolis Hotel. The 2017 Ball’s theme is “MARYLAND AGAINST BREAST CANCER” with Governor Larry Hogan as its Honorary Chair. New BBC Board Member Monica Rutherford, who was the Co-Honorary Chair for the 2016 Bosom Buddies Ball with First Lady Yumi Hogan, said, “It is my honor and pleasure to work with this exceptional group of women on BBC’s mission in fighting a disease that has touched so many families in our community.”
