Baysox slide reaches six games!

Baysox 2016The Baysox surrendered 14 hits and committed four errors on the way to a 6-4 loss to the Binghamton Mets Thursday night. The loss was the Baysox sixth in a row to tie a season high.

Baltimore Orioles reliever T.J. McFarland pitched for the Baysox on a Major League Rehab Assignment. He pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out one batter.

Binghamton struck first in the top of the first inning against Baysox starter John Means. Champ Stuart hit a lead-off single to center field and moved to second base on a Phillip Evans single to left field. Dominic Smith then brought Stuart home with another single to center field to make the score 1-0.

The B-Mets added another run in the top of the third inning with help from a Baysox error. Evans hit a two-out single to left field and scored on a Smith single and fielding error by Baysox center fielder Chris Dickerson to give Binghamton a 2-0 lead.

The Baysox tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning against Binghamton starter Tyler Herron. After failing to record a hit in the first three innings, the Baysox recorded five consecutive singles to score two runs. After a Julio Borbon single, Dickerson’s singled struck Herron and forced him out of the game where he was replaced by reliever Kyle Regnault. Chance Sisco and Henry Urrutia followed with RBI singles to even the score 2-2.

The B-Mets broke the game open in the top of the eighth inning against Baysox reliever Scott McGough. Derrik Gibson hit a lead-off single to left field and scored on an Evans single and Urrutia fielding error in right field. Smith followed with an RBI double to center field and he moved to third base after an error by catcher Chance Sisco. Victor Cruzado and L.J. Mazzilli followed with back-to-back singles to bring another run home before reliever Stefan Crichton replaced McGough on the mound. Colton Plaia singled to load the bases with one out and Maikis De La Cruz brought a run home with a groundout for the final run of the inning to put Binghamton up 6-2. 

Dickerson led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run to right field off Binghamton reliever Tim Peterson. The Baysox then loaded the bases with one out on a pair of singles and a walk before Binghamton reliever David Roseboom replaced Peterson on the mound. Drew Dosch brought one more run home with a sacrifice fly to make the final score 6-4.

Means threw six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out two batters in the no decision. McGough took the loss, recording one out in the eighth inning and allowing four runs on five hits and a strikeout. Crichton recorded the final five outs for the Baysox, allowing two hits and striking out one batter.

Binghamton reliever Luis Mateo earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing two hits with a strikeout and a walk. 

The Baysox are home through Thursday, Sep. 1 for the final eight game homestand of the season against the Binghamton Mets and Harrisburg Senators. Friday is Military Heroes Appreciation Night starting at 7:05 p.m. with a special card set giveaway. RHP Brandon Barker (5-6, 4.61) will start for the Baysox Friday and he will be opposed by RHP Josh Zeid (4-4, 3.98).
