Pickup hits 12-year old on scooter in Cape St. Claire

traffic-accident iconOn July 22, 2016 at approximately 2:53 p.m., officers responded to a crash on Cape St Claire Road near Skyway Drive in Cape St Claire involving a pickup and a child on a scooter. Preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup was southbound on Cape St Claire Road when it struck the child riding an electric scooter who pulled out from a small driveway. The child was taken by State Police helicopter to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore with critical injuries.

The preliminary cause of the crash is the child’s failure to stop and yield to vehicular traffic on the thru roadway. It appears speed may be a contributing factor but alcohol was not. The child was not wearing a helmet.

The Traffic Safety Section is handling the investigation and any charges are pending review by the State’s Attorney.
