Fire displaces 5 in Annapolis apartment fire, suspect arrested in arson

UPDATE:

On the morning of July 21, 2016, after doing a orgin and cause investigation, the Annapolis Fire Marshal’s Office, Investigation Section, determined that the fire was intentionally set and arrested Tracy Jones, 51 years old, of 1110 Madison Street, Apartment B­2, and charged her with multiple counts of arson, and other related charges. She was taken to the District Court Commisioner’s Office to be charged.

On Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 10:07 PM the Annapolis Fire Department was dispatched to 1110 Madison Street, for a possible building fire, with a reported person trapped.

The first arriving units reported smoke showing. The fire crews made an aggressive attack on the fire and the fire was placed under control at 10:29 PM. The fire was contained to the bottom floor apartment of a three story apartment building. with smoke damage to several other apartments.

There have been no reports of injuries to any of the fire fighters or civilians. The Red Cross was called for four adults and one child who were displaced due to the fire.

The fire brought approximately 11 pieces of fire apparatus, and approximately 38 firefighters to the scene. The Annapolis City Fire Department received mutual aid from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and the United States Naval Academy Fire Department.

The Fire Investigators are currently on the scene, and at this point in time a determination of the cause of the fire has not been determined. The monetary loss has been placed at approximately $50,000. More information will be released as it becomes available.
